“The Quran and Science”
For 1400 years people have been asking it.
Can a book revealed in the desert talk about things we only discovered with telescopes and microscopes?
Some say yes. Some say no. Some say "don’t mix them".
But 2 billion Muslims read this book every day and feel like it’s speaking to them.
This is not an article to "prove" Islam.
This is a conversation. About verses, about science, and about what happens when you read them side by side without fear.
Because The Quran and Science is not a debate. It’s an invitation to look.
Chapter 1: What The Quran Actually Claims About Itself
Before we talk about science, let’s hear what the book says.
"And We have sent down to you the Book as clarification for all things" Quran 16:89
"This is the Book about which there is no doubt" Quran 2:2
The Quran never says "I am a science textbook".
It says "I am a book of signs". Ayat.
Ayat means verses. And also signs.
So the Quran points. It says: "Look at the sky. Look at yourself. Look at the sea."
Then it leaves you to discover.
That is the key to The Quran and Science. The Quran gives signs. Science explains the mechanism.
Chapter 2: Quran and Cosmology - The Universe In 3 Verses
Let’s start big. With the universe.
1. The Expanding Universe
Quran 51:47: "And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are expander."[its]
Expanding - Musi’un.
For 1400 years scholars said "God made the heavens vast".
In 1929, Edwin Hubble discovered the universe is expanding.
Coincidence? Maybe.
But the Quran used a verb in present continuous. Not "was expanded". "We are expanding".
2. The Big Bang
Quran 21:30: "Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them?"
Joined entity - Ratq. Separated - Fataq.
In 1960s, the Big Bang theory said the universe started from one point and expanded.
The Quran doesn’t say "Big Bang". It gives an image. A closed thing that was opened.
3. The Universe is Returning
Quran 21:104: "The Day when We will fold the heaven like the folding of a sheet."[written]
Modern cosmology talks about "Big Crunch" or "Big Rip". The idea that the universe may collapse.
Quran and cosmology doesn’t give equations. It gives direction.
Look up. It’s moving. It started. It may end.
Chapter 3: Quran and Medicine - Healing That Was Written Down
The Prophet said: "For every disease there is a cure."
The Quran mentions healing 4 times. But it also describes the body.
1. Honey as Medicine
Quran 16:69: "There emerges from their bellies a drink of varying colors in which there is healing for people."
In 2024, WHO lists honey as a treatment for cough. Hospitals use medical-grade honey for wounds.
The Quran named it 1400 years ago.
2. The Two Seas
Quran 55:19-20: "He released the two seas, meeting [side by side]; Between them is a barrier neither of them transgresses."[so]
Oceanographers in 1960s discovered "haloclines" - where fresh and salt water meet but don’t mix immediately.
The Quran described it as a barrier.
3. Sleep and Circadian Rhythm
Quran 78:9: "And made your sleep [a means for] rest."
Modern medicine now knows sleep repairs cells, balances hormones.
The Quran called it "Subat" - rest and recovery, 1400 years ago.
Quran and medicine is not about replacing doctors.
It’s about pointing to things we should study.
Chapter 4: Quran and Embryology - The Most Debated Verses
This is where people argue the most. So let’s be honest.
Quran 23:12-14:
"We created man from a drop of mingled sperm.
Then We made the drop into a clinging clot,
then We made the clot into a lump,
then We made the lump, bones,
and We clothed the bones with flesh;
then We developed him into another creation."[from]
The Arabic words:
- Nutfah: drop of sperm
- Alaqah: clinging clot / leech-like
- Mudghah: chewed lump
- Izam: bones
- Lahm: flesh
In the 1980s, Dr. Keith Moore, an embryologist, looked at these terms.
He said the stages match what we see under microscope: zygote, embryo, fetus.
Especially "Alaqah" - the embryo at 24 days literally looks like a leech and clings to the womb.
Did the Quran teach embryology?
No. It gave 5 stages in 3 lines.
Did science later find those stages? Yes.
The Quran and Science here is not "science in the Quran".
It’s "the Quran pointed, and science later confirmed".
Chapter 5: Water - The Origin No One Expected
Quran 21:30: "And We made from water every living thing."
Quran 24:45: "And Allah created every animal from water."
In 2026, biology still agrees: All life needs water. Cells are 70% water.
The Quran said it as a universal rule, not about one animal.
New human information: Bedouins in the desert valued water more than gold.
For the Quran to say "life comes from water" in that environment was against common sense.
People thought life came from dust, or gods.
That’s the pattern of Scientific miracles in Quran. It says things that didn’t make sense then, and make sense now.
Chapter 6: The Sky, The Mountains, The Iron
Let’s go fast. Because the signs are many.
1. The Protective Sky
Quran 21:32: "And We made the sky a protected ceiling."
The atmosphere blocks meteors, UV rays, radiation.
We only understood "ozone layer" in 1913.
2. Mountains as Pegs
Quran 78:7: "And the mountains as stakes?"
Geology: Mountains have "roots" that go deep into the earth’s crust. They stabilize tectonic plates.
The Arabic Awtad = pegs, stakes.
3. Iron Sent Down
Quran 57:25: "And We sent down iron, in which is strong material and benefits for the people."
Astrophysics: Iron is not made on Earth. It’s made in supernova explosions and "sent down" via meteorites.
The Quran used the word "anzalna" - We sent down.
Scientific miracles in Quran are not about proving God.
They are about making you stop and say "SubhanAllah".
Chapter 7: What The Quran Does NOT Say
This is important. To be human is to be honest.
The Quran does not say:
- The earth is flat. It says "dahaha" - spread out like an egg.
- The sun orbits the earth. It says "each in an orbit".
- There are 7 heavens and 7 earths literally. It uses 7 as a number of vastness.
The Quran and Science fails when we force science into the Quran.
The Quran is not here to teach physics.
It’s here to make you ask questions.
Chapter 8: The Human Side - Why This Matters in 2026

Chapter 9: 5 Rules For Reading The Quran and Science Without Going Crazy
Because the internet is full of fake "miracles".
Do:
- Read the Arabic: Translations lose nuance.
- Check context: Is the verse about science or about God’s power?
- Wait for science: Don’t force current theory. Science changes.
- Ask scholars AND scientists: Both.
- Intention: Read to increase awe, not to win debates.
Don’t:
- Don’t claim every verse is a scientific miracle.
- Don’t reject science because "the Quran said so".
- Don’t use weak hadith to explain verses.
- Don’t mock people who ask questions.
Chapter 10: The verses About Time, Space, and You
Time is relative
Quran 22:47: "And indeed, a day with your Lord is like a thousand years of those which you count."
Einstein: Time is relative to speed and gravity.
The Quran didn’t give the equation. It gave the concept.
Everything is in pairs
Quran 51:49: "And of all things We created two mates."
Matter and anti-matter. Male and female. Positive and negative.
Discovered in 20th century.
Your fingerprint
Quran 75:4: "Yes. [We are] Able proportion his fingertips."
Why fingertips? In 2026 we use fingerprints for identity.
The Quran singled out the smallest detail.[to]
Chapter 11: The Biggest "Miracle" No One Talks About
Here’s new human information.
The biggest scientific miracle is not in the verse.
It’s in the fact that the Quran survived unchanged for 1400 years.
We have manuscripts from 650 CE. Word for word same.
No other ancient book can say that.
Science changes. Theories die.
But the text stayed.
So when science catches up, the text is still there to be read.
That is The Quran and Science relationship: One is constant. One is evolving.
Chapter 12: When Science and Quran Seem to Clash
They do. Sometimes.
Example: Age of the earth. Evolution.
Islamic approach:
- Separate domains: Science asks "how". Quran asks "why".
- Humility: "We do not know" is an Islamic answer.
- No compulsion: You don’t have to believe a specific scientific interpretation to be Muslim.
The Prophet said: "You know better the affairs of your world."
That means: Go do science. Discover.
Chapter 13: How To Use This in Daily Life
The Quran and Science is not for YouTube debates.
It’s for you.
3 Actions:
- When you see the sky: Remember "We are the expander". Feel small and loved.
- When you are sick: Use medicine AND read "and when I am ill, it is He who cures me".
- When you study: The first word revealed was "Iqra" - Read. Islam commands science.
Chapter 14: Questions People Always Ask
- Did the Prophet copy from Greek science? Greek science was lost in Europe. The Quran came to people who couldn’t read. And it corrected Greek mistakes. Like "heart thinks".
- Are these just vague verses? Some are. Some are specific. The point is not every verse is scientific. The point is none contradict established science.
- What about mistakes? Show me one. Real scholars have debated for centuries. No consensus on a clear scientific error.
- Do I need to believe in scientific miracles to be Muslim? No. Faith is not based on miracles. It’s based on Tawheed.
Chapter 15: The Final Sign
Quran 41:53: "We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth."
The Quran and Science is that verse in action.
Outside: galaxies, oceans, mountains.
Inside: your cells, your heart, your brain.
The Quran says: Look.
Science says: Here’s how.
And the believer says: SubhanAllah.
Conclusion: Innahu la qawlun fasl, wa ma huwa bil-hazl
At-tanaqad al-mawhum bayna al-wahy wal-ilm yazuwru inda al-taammul al-amiq, fa-kullu ayah min kitab Allah tajidu laha sadaan fi haqaiq al-kawn al-mushahadah, musiddiqatan bi-anna al-khaliq huwa al-musawwir al-hakim.
